How You Can Help
Volunteer Your Time
Volunteers are the backbone of our facility and aid our staff in daily operations. While we do have individuals that prefer to concentrate on one specific area (i.e. cats,mailings), the majority of our volunteers are multifaceted.
The volunteer experience at the shelter includes (but is not limited to):

dog walking / feeding / handling

cat socializing / feeding / handling

cleaning animal areas and facility

bathing animals

greeting guests for special events

assisting potential adopters

speaking to public about Diamonds in the Ruff mission

Foster Program
A foster parent fulfills an integral role in the rescue process. They serve as the initial safe and secure environment for a rescued animal. By taking in a rescued dog or cat, you are providing us with space to take another dog or cat in need out of the shelter.

Guardian Angel Program
The Guardian Angel Program was created to help promote and stimulate adoption of our Diamonds in the Ruff Rescue available dogs & cats. This program is for those volunteers who want to spend more time with the animals outside of regular adoptions as well as learn more about the rescue process.
The Guardian Angel chooses or is assigned one of our adoptable animals. Whether it is taking them out for exercise during the week, stimulating activity or spending some quality time with your specific furry friend, this provides the companionship our animals need. It also enables the Guardian Angel to observe character traits which aid in the proper placement of his or her pet. Providing this behavioral information and talking to potential families at our adoptions helps us to find that perfectly matched home.
The Guardian Angel can also network their pet – talk to friends, family and business associates – so that we can expedite their permanent adoption.
